Fisherman Class For DnD 5E

Hello, adventurers! Welcome to my latest concept: the Fisherman Class for DnD 5E! If you enjoyed my previous project then get ready to set sail for a boatload of laughs this time around.

Here’s the hook (pun totally intended):

  • You get an all-new Fisherman Class (levels 1-20) designed to make your DnD 5E sessions an absolute tidal wave of fun.
  • 3 Subclasses: including one that literally slaps monsters with a fish.
  • A robust Fishing System that any character can use (although Fishermen are naturally the masters at hooking monstrous catches.)

WHY A FISHERMAN CLASS?

  1. It’s Weird and Wonderful: Because sometimes the Barbarian wants to smash, the Wizard wants to fling fireballs, and you want to bonk a troll with a carp.
  2. Next-Level Roleplay: Bragging about the big one that got away is an instant invitation for your bard to sing epic, fishy ballads about your conquests.
  3. Savvy Utility: Reel in enemies, set up aquatic traps, or keep your party fed with fresh catch. That’s a trifecta of greatness right there!
  4. Unleash Hilarious Chaos: “I fish-slap the dragon” is now a valid battle cry, and who can resist a character who can do that with style?

    2. The Ancient Tidemaster – Harness the power of the deep, conjuring water and commanding the tides.
    3. The Way of the Mariner’s Totem – Embody the spirit of sea creatures and summon watery avatars.
  • NEW Fishy Weapons & Magic Items (like a Legendary Herring or a Scabbard of Stink).
  • Comprehensive Fishing System – Whether you’re a Bard, a Barbarian, or the brand-new Fisherman, you can try your luck at hooking dinner (or hooking the local sea monster… whichever comes first).
  • And of course, a list of 20 fishes to catch! (more if we unlock some stretch goals!!)

THE FISHERMAN CLASS: A CLOSER LOOK

Salt in your hair, a line in the water—that’s the fisherman’s life. You’re the daring soul who sees a monstrous kraken and thinks, “What if I put it on my wall?”

Class Highlights

  • Reel ’Em In: Snag enemies with fishing lines or nets, potentially restraining them and flipping the tide of battle.
  • Catch of the Day: Roll on a random table whenever you fish in a body of water—find precious loot, summoning components, or maybe just a soggy boot.
  • Fisher’s Fortune: Advantage on aquatic-based survival checks, plus you get unearthly good luck around lakes and rivers (the fish gods approve!).
  • Slippery as an Eel: Gain uncanny escapes from grapples, making you the slipperiest party member around.

3 FISH-TASTIC SUBCLASSES

1. THE FISHSLAPPER

Ever been whacked in the face by a flapping trout? That’s just a normal day for the Fishslapper. Equal parts comedy act and battle frenzy, these fish-wielding warriors turn your average cod into a surprisingly lethal (and slippery) smackdown device. 

Next time someone mocks your fishing skills, show ’em you’re not messing around, just watch out for the fish guts.

2. THE ANCIENT TIDEMASTER

Legends claim the ocean itself once bowed to the Tidemaster after a particularly stern glare. This salty sage has a direct line to every crashing wave, swirling eddy, and passing sea breeze. One flick of their wrist might calm a raging typhoon, or summon a watery smack upside the head for any fool who crosses them. 

Pro tip: never bet against someone who can win an arm-wrestling contest with the sea.

3. THE WAY OF THE MARINER’S TOTEM

Becoming a fish by swearing a pact with ancient aquatic spirits seems to be a little bit extreme but that’s the way of the mariner’s totem. They channel oceanic power and go absolutely berserk if you so much as mention fish stew. 

Sure, they’ll help reel in that legendary catch (just for sport!), but try frying it up afterwards and you’ll see just how fast they can turn your evening into an underwater whirlwind of regret.

THE FISHING SYSTEM (FOR EVERYONE!)

Why should only Fishermen have all the fun? This system adds a flexible fishing mechanic usable by any 5E class.

  1. Identify a Water Source – Ocean, river, enchanted well, or a weird subterranean puddle.
  2. Gear & Bait – Basic rods or insane arcane harpoons. Creative bait = advantage on your Fishing checks (sometimes).
  3. Fishing Check – Usually Survival, but you can talk your DM into letting you use Strength (if you brute force it) or Charisma (if you’re seducing the fish).
  4. Reward or Mishap – Maybe you catch a legendary fish that grants underwater breathing, or a vicious piranha that leaps into your face for comedic damage.

THE FISHERMAN IS GOING TO BECOME YOUR DM NIGTHMARE

  • Player: “Wait… we’re in a volcanic wasteland. Can I still fish?”
  • DMSweating “Uh… sure… but you have disadvantage.”
  • PlayerRolls natural 20 “I got something!”
  • DM: “…”

Or maybe…

  • DM: “You see the BBEG of your campaign monologuing about ruling the plane.”
  • Fisherman: “Is there a moat? I’d like to cast my line in there.”
  • BBEGConfused sputtering
  • DM: “Fine. Roll for Fishing.”

It’s these moments of comedic chaos that we love, and that we hope your table will share over and over again.

About the Softcover version

I’m using the “Print-at-cost” system from DrivethruRPG. After pledging for your book, you’ll need to order it directly from DrivehtruRPG but instead of paying the full price, you’ll simply need to cover the printing cost (around 6-7€) and the shipping cost (depending on your location and if you order multiple books at once). 

Everything went smooth for the first book but in any case of trouble or delay, I will do my best to keep you updated!
